Get to Know Our Journey

The idea of founding Lubifood came after the discovery of Echigo rice in Asia. At the age of three, my daughter was diagnosed with a metabolic disorder called Homocystinuria. At that moment, our life changed 360°. It meant embarking on a low-protein diet, which is one of the strictest diets in the world. We had to switch from our normal eating habits to a strict low-protein diet, which was not easy. Excluding such foods from our diet as meat, milk, eggs, cereals, rice, flour was unimaginable for us. And what am I going to cook? But we had no choice and we had to get used to the diet. Potatoes, fruits and vegetables remained the main source of food on a low-protein diet. It was very difficult to find recipes and flavours that would suit my daughter as she had been eating everything for 3 years.

As a mother, I missed rice in my diet, which can be easily combined with vegetables. With rice we can make different vegetable side dishes, risotto, vegan sushi, sweet rice puddings, curry sauces, etc. Ordinary rice has an average of 6-8g of protein per 100g, which is unacceptable for us. For someone, 6g of protein represents the total daily intake. As I wanted only the best for my daughter, I spent days on the internet looking for new low-protein foods. Unless, of course, I was cooking in the kitchen. It took time and money to try out what all the market had to offer.
But I still missed rice, because you can’t eat a rice substitute. At least for me.

Fate, God, faith, the law of attraction – call it what you will, led me to the Philippines, where I discovered Echigo rice. Real real rice with low protein. No substitute, a rice substitute that tastes like nothing. Woow. We wonder how this is possible. And that’s where my journey began.

Our Vision

Bringing in the first rice samples from third countries was downright impossible. Not to mention when you want to pay for something. After half a year, when I figured out the logistics, the payments, the customs, the first samples arrived in Slovakia. It cost “millions” but I knew it would be worth it. Full of expectations, I looked at the product, read the preparation instructions and tasted it with my daughter. Wow, normal rice. Which was admittedly stickier in consistency, but that explains the fermentation as one of the production steps. Normal rice that retained its nutritional value and is low in protein. I told myself that anyone facing a low-protein diet needs to know about this.

Our Mission

So my journey continued and I researched how to bring rice to Europe and make it available to others. My father Ľuboš and I, Bibiana, founded Lubifood, where we offer products that have a story to tell.
For all this I want to thank my daughter Thea, who is the biggest fighter, and I hope she will read this one day when she is big.

Agroregión a.s.

Agroregión is a joint-stock company engaged in livestock and non-animal production based in Rajecka dolina.

A product of which we can be very proud is our rapeseed oil, which is cold pressed and filtered through winery filters. It is proven by study to be healthier than olive oil and is suitable for cold or warm use. Its quality and beautiful yellow colour will surprise you. We have also focused on making a healthy low protein coconut pudding.

The company is the exclusive distributor for Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, France, Hungary and Spain.

Vegetable production

Blue and white poppy, lentils, linseed or milk thistle are grown in the fields in the Rajecká valley.

Livestock production

We are the largest turkey breeder in Slovakia, we can produce up to 120,000 units per year.

Distribution

A new specialisation is the import of food products from third countries, such as Echigo rice.
